Key is to use Palmade or hair wax before you twist the hair and then secure it with a pony or bobby pins and then let it dry naturally really good
We didn't have any palmade and Addi only let it dry overnight so we would do those things differently next time to get tighter curls
She loved it and that is ALL that matters!
