Family Activity: Giving! 3/7

YWCA of Cass County

This week at Sunday School the kids were taught about giving to others who need help.
The challenge this week is to show our kids how to give. I thought it was such a great idea that I wanted to share it with you and your families in hopes it may help bring up giving with your own kids and help others in your community who may need your help too.

The YWCA of Cass Clay is the facility in need of items in our community that Addisyn's Sunday School program is helping this week. They have a shelter located in South Fargo, dedicated to eliminating racisism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, dignity and freedom for all.

They are in need of Children's Tylenol
Pedialyte
Pull-ups (all sizes)
Children's Bubble Bath
Children's Bath Toys

The challenge presented to our kids is to help out with extra chores around the house to earn some extra money this week, ideas for chores could be:
setting the table, putting away the clean silverware, placing items in the recycle bin, clearing the table, taking out the garage, etc.

They recommend paying your child right away for chores completed to ensure they understand the idea of doing work and getting paid for it
-another great suggestion is to store the money in 3 glass jars (so it's easy for kids to see) and labeled:
spend, save, give

1 thing my sister does that is very clear for her kids is they earn $.25 for each completed chore-she always has nickels and dimes available and gives out 2 dimes and 1 nickel for each chore completed
the kids' glass jars are readily accessible and the kids have their jars labeled
so they place in 1 dime into the spending jar, 1 dime into the saving jar, and 1 nickel into the giving jar

at the end of the week have your child take out the money that is in the giving jar and have them go with you to the store to purchase some of the items from the list that are needed for the YWCA
or other place in need of items
-this shows the kids "their" money is being used to purchase the items needed

for the next 2 weeks our church will be collecting the items and taking them to the shelter
if you would like to participate in this YWCA Cass County Supply Drive
please take your donated items at the end of this week or next to:

Atonement Lutheran Church
4601 S. University Drive
Fargo, ND 58104
701-237-9651

There are many shelters, organizations, and other facilities that are in need of supplies and items every day
Call your local Red Cross or County Service Office for places that may need your help.

We need to show our children at an early what giving looks like and I thought this was the perfect activity to do so.

Happy Giving!
